Welcome to the Official Re-launch of PatMethenyMusic.com

By Sean Fenlon on March 17, 2014

My name is Sean Fenlon, and I am a huge admirer of Pat Metheny and his art. I originally launched this PatMethenyMusic.com fan site back in 2003, right after the release of The Way Up. I have used the release of Kin (<—>) as motivation for a re-launch of the site with a fresh new design and re-imagined as a blog.

I was first introduced to the music of Pat Metheny (the 1984 release of First Circle) while I was studying composition with Hank Levy at Towson University from 1986-1990. I later attended The Peabody Institute of Music, where I completed my doctoral dissertation, The Exotic Rhythms of Don Ellis. While preparing for this dissertation, I had the opportunity to phone interview Pat Metheny about Don Ellis’s influence on Metheny and his own musical language. The interview lasted hours. I was blown away by the depth of his musical knowledge and the passion he brings to his art. Metheny remembered me years later when I introduced myself to him after of of his concerts at Lisner Auditorium in Washington DC.

Pat Metheny has had a remarkable influence on my own musical language. I have closely assimilated his approach to rhythm, form, and melody in my own Metheny-influenced compositions. I hope that the information contained within this site ultimately encourages even greater awareness of the life and art of Pat Metheny.

Please feel free to contact me directly to discuss Pat Metheny or the information contained on this website.

Please stay tuned as I make additional revisions to the site and begin publishing blog posts.

Cheers.

    hi,

I am also a great fan of Pat.
Do you know if there is a fan site so that we can post and share etc? And arrange when he performs? i do the same with Van Morrison, is very nice.
